
Su shares how she grew up feeling a sense of belonging with her Métis community in Alberta. Since moving to Kingston, she has at times felt invisible. She emphasizes the importance of noticing whose voices are being heard and whose voices are silenced. She said racism thrives in silence and the significance of speaking up.

Su Buchanan (she/her) is a member of the Red River Métis from Winnipeg, Manitoba, and now lives in Eastern Ontario on the lands of the Haudenosaunee, Michi Saagiig, and Omámíwinini Peoples. She is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years of public-sector experience in Kingston, Ontario. Su is an Adjunct Professor in Psychology at Queen’s University, where she supervises and co-teaches a clinical graduate course. She led “Got Your Back,” a community outreach program bringing wellness workshops to local schools and community centers for 15 years. She also has a private practice in Kingston and chairs the CPA – Indigenous People’s Psychology section.
